EVENTS & FESTIVALS


The Granite City Park district has Movies Under the Stars which is a movie series shown at Wilson Park. Movies will run on given Fridays in the summer. Movies are shown in the outfield of Sykes Field and are free to the public. Please call the main office for the specific dates. 618-877-3059

The Granite City Park District also hosts Big Band Concerts at Wilson Park in the Centennial Pavilion beginning at 7:30 pm on various Thursday nights throughout the summer. Concerts are free to the public. More details are available at the Park Board Office.

The “Patriots in the Park” 4th of July celebration is one of the best in the St Louis area. This weekend long event includes a carnival with food, live entertainment, rides and ends with a spectacular fireworks display. Memorial Park, located in the downtown area, hosts many of the areas Veterans Day and Memorial Day services. For more information call 618-877-3059 or visit the park district website at www.park.granitecity.com. 21st & Madison Ave.

St. Elizabeth Catholic Church hosts an annual carnival during the first week of June. There is always good food, live music and plenty of carnival rides. Parking and the live music is free. Contact St. Elizabeth Church at 618-877-3300 2300 Pontoon Rd Granite City, IL. 62040

Holy Family Catholic Church also hosts an annual carnival. Contact Holy Family church at 618-452-8244. 2606 Washington Ave. Granite City, IL. 62040

The Mexican Honorary Society
has an annual Heritage Festival in historic Lincoln Place. For more information call 618-877-4995

PARADES


There are several parades in Granite City including:
The baseball parade which features all the teams that play ball for the Granite City Park District. Contact the Park District for date.

On Labor Day there is a parade featuring the local unions. This parade is always on Labor Day at 10 am.

Santa’s Holiday Avenue provides the Santa parade always held the Saturday before Thanksgiving. This year it will be on November 21, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. To Participate, please print out and mail or fax the following form to the City Clerk's office by November 9th!

Santa’s Cabin

This is the same cabin many of us remember visiting as children. It was in severe disrepair when the Santa’s Holiday Avenue Committee remodeled it in 1995.

Children of all ages, pets and families can visit Santa at this cabin. The parade is held on the Saturday before Thanksgiving every year, this year it will be on November 21, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. Immediately following the parade will be a Chili-Cook-Off at Wilson Park in the Pavillion, on 29th and State Street. This year the cabin will open on December 4th. The cabin is run by volunteers only.
Hours:  Thursday and Friday 5-8 pm
            Saturday and Sunday 1:00-4:00 pm & 5-8 pm The week of Christmas the cabin is open everyday from 5-8 pm. until December 23rd.
