Metroeast Levee Update

FEMA will no longer disregard levees considered below standard in its process of updating Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRMs). In response to requests from more than 27 U.S. Senators and multiple Representatives, FEMA will discontinue its "without levees" practice and will instead begin using methods to more accurately reflect the quality of existing levees in the Metro East and across the country.

This policy reversal is a welcomed change for us and dozens of other levee protected communities across the country that are dealing with the implications of FEMA's remapping process.

Granite City Named Most Progressive City

In recognition of the significant energy efficiency efforts made by Granite City businesses, Ameren Illinois recently presented the Act On Energy Most Progressive City Award to Granite City.

Granite City businesses completed 32 Act On Energy projects resulting in a savings of over 15.3 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year, which is the equivalent of more than 1,500 single family homes.  This savings is greater than any other City in the Ameren Illinois service territory.  Click for the Full Press Release.
