Streets & Sanitation
Department Overview
The Streets & Sanitation Division of the Public Works Department list of responsibilities is two-fold. These responsibilities are: 1) the performance of maintenance of Granite City’s 300 plus miles of roadway, 500 miles of sidewalk, 3,000 street signs, and 1,000 sewer collection structures and 2) to maintain the health and safety of the community through the enforcement of the sanitary ordinances enacted by the City Council. We do NOT, however, collect garbage or other refuse, as that service is performed by the private sector; and we also do not perform maintenance of street lights, as they are owned and maintained by Ameren Electric Company. However, if a street light is out, you may report it to us and we will forward this on to Ameren, or you may report it directly to Ameren by clicking HERE.
