How can I get a copy of my police report?
Requests for reports can be made through the mail or in person and must be accompanied by a check or money order for $5.00 per report, payable to the Granite City Police Department.

The following information is necessary to identify requested report:

    • Parties involved
    • Date and location of occurrence
    • Report number if available

How can I get a copy of my criminal record?
You may obtain your own local criminal history information for a fee of $5.00. You must request this information in person with a valid ID from the GCPD Records Division between 9:00 am to 5:00 pm

How can I obtain crime statistics?
A variety of crime statistics are available for the City of Granite City on the Crime Statistics page of this website or direct from the State of Illinois and/or FBI websites.

How can I get a police clearance letter (proof of no criminal record)?
Contact the GCPD Records clerk at (618) 451-9760.

Do I have any warrants?
Information regarding an outstanding warrant can be obtained in person at the front desk in the Police Department.

Will the Police Department check on my house while I’m on vacation?
You can place vacation/out of town notice using our Vacation Watch Form or by requesting a Vacation Watch request in person at the Police Department, located at 2330 Madison Avenue.

Will the Police Department check on elderly or disabled people who live alone?
Yes, Call (618) 877-6111. Tell the dispatcher your concern and the address.

How do I request extra patrol time in my neighborhood?
You can request extra patrol in your neighborhood using the on-line Citizen Crime Tip Report Form. The form asks for information about the location and nature of your problem, when it occurs, who is involved and whether you’d like to be contacted directly. Once submitted, the request will be forwarded to the appropriate division for follow up.

How do I report a crime in progress?
A crime in progress is considered an emergency. Emergencies include crimes in progress or those that are about to happen, medical emergencies and crimes that have resulted in serious personal injury, property damage, or property loss. You should report emergencies by calling 9-1-1.

I need police assistance, but it’s not an emergency. Who do I call?
Any criminal or suspicious activities that are not emergencies should be reported to the Granite City Police Dispatch Non-Emergency number (618) 877-6111. Emergencies include crimes in progress or those that are about to happen, medical emergencies and crimes that have resulted in serious personal injury, property damage, or property loss.

What can I do about annoying or threatening phone calls?
Annoying or threatening phone calls should be reported the same way other crimes are reported. If you feel your personal safety is immediately threatened, you should call 9-1-1. If it is not an emergency you should report the annoying or threatening phone call by calling (618) 877-6111.

How can I report suspected child abuse?
Call the Department of Children & Family Services (DCFS) hotline at (800) 252-2873 to report situations in which you suspect that a child has been abused or appears to be at risk of being abused. Your report will be investigated and steps will be taken to protect the child and preserve the family unit. The GCPD will be informed if abuse is involved. If the abuse is in progress you should call 9-1-1.

How can I report suspected elder abuse?
Call the Illinois Elder Abuse Hotline at (866) 800-1409 to report suspected instances of neglect and psychological, physical, financial or sexual abuse of elders and dependent adults. They will investigate and provide assistance and case management where appropriate. The GCPD will be informed if abuse is involved. If the abuse is in progress, call 9-1-1.
