National Night Out

The first Tuesday of August, each year, is nationally recognized as National Night Out. "National Night Out" is designed to:

    • Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness
    • Generate support and participation in local anti-crime efforts
    • Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community relations
    • Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back

From 7 to 10 pm, residents in neighborhoods throughout the City and across the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside porch lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police. Many neighborhoods throughout Granite host a variety of special events such as block parties, cookouts, parades, visits from police, flashlight walks, contests, youth activities, and anti-crime and drug rallies. If you or your organization would like to organize a National Night Out event, or if you have any questions concerning National Night Out, please contact the Granite City Police Department at (618) 876-6111.
