For over 100 years the Granite City Fire Department has provided exceptional emergency response to our community.  From our humble beginnings when horses pulled the essential tools of firefighting to the highly specialized equipment of today, the mission of the fire department has remained the same, to serve and care for the citizens of Granite City and our visitors. Because of our commitment to excellence, the Granite City Fire Department has been awarded an ISO rating of 3, which is one of the lowest ratings awarded to a community in Southern Illinois.

The Granite City Fire Department is proud to serve our 30,000 citizens who reside over 19 square miles. We respond to over 5100 calls a year between our three strategically located stations. We provide fire suppression, advanced life support EMS, vehicle extrication, technical rescue (confined space, rope and surface water/ice), arson investigation, hazardous material mitigation, disaster management, risk reduction education and fire code building inspections.

Mission Statement

The Granite City Fire Department will provide exceptional service to the community, exceeding the industry standards in response to fires, medical emergencies and other hazardous situations. We strive to obtain these goals through quality training and fire prevention.
