Vince Martinez

   Fire Chief

D. Vincent Martinez was appointed Fire Chief in August of 2014. Vince is a life long resident of Granite City, attended Granite City public schools K-12 graduating from Granite City Senior High South in 1977. Vince attended Southern Illinois University Edwardsville where he studied Business Administration. He received his Fire Science education through Southwest Illinois College and the Illinois Fire Service Institute. Vince has been a Illinois Dept. of Public Health licensed paramedic for over twenty five years.

Vince is married to the former Catharine Wilson. They have two adult children and three grandchildren.

Vince has been a member of the Granite City Fire Department since September 1 1987, when he joined as a firefighter. He has risen through the ranks successively serving as a firefighter/paramedic, engineer and captain. His experience in the fire service  includes firefighting, emergency medical services, hazardous materials operations, incident command, vehicle and machinery rescue, facilities management, public relations, project management and development of operating procedures, personnel policies, and labor relations.

Chief Martinez is an active member of several organizations, including:
-Madison County Fire Chief’s Association
-Madison County Hazardous Materials Steering Committee
-City of Granite City Fire Pension Board

Chief Martinez’s primary goal for the Granite City Fire Department is to reduce the number of fires and fire related injuries and deaths in the community. He believes this can be accomplished by:  
   •Analyzing response data to identify those that are at greater risk 
   • Providing a quality life safety education program to our citizens 
   • Enforcing State and local fire prevention codes 
   • Responding with the resources necessary to quickly and safely perform operations at the scene 
     of an emergency incident

Kenny Prazma
Assistant Fire Chief

Chief Prazma is a proud resident of Granite City since he was a child. He is a graduate of Granite City High School class of 1977 and was inducted into the GCHS Hall of Fame. After school, he worked at US Steel as a Laborer for a short period of time before testing for the fire department.

Chief Prazma was sworn in as a Firefighter/Paramedic in 1990. He attend University of Illinois' Fire Service Institute and Southwest Illinois College. In 2007, he was promoted to the rank of Engineer. In August 2014, Engineer Prazma was appointed Assistant Fire Chief.

Chief Prazma is proud of this department and community. His main goal is to increase our relationship with the public.  He wants the citizens of Granite to have a greater understanding of what emergency services are available to them.

Mr. Prazma has been dedicated to this community by coaching soccer for the Elks Soccer Club for 25 years. In 2004, he became an Assistant Coach for the Granite City High School Girl's Varsity Soccer team. He is proud of their accomplishment in 2011 by winning the State Championship. In 2012, he was appointed Head Coach.

Assistant Chief has been married to his wife Jill for over 25 years and is a proud father of two grown children.
