City Council Biography
Ron Simpson
Ward 7 Councilmember
Councilman Simpson was born and raised in Granite City. He is married to the former Vicki Mercer and has three children and a daughter in law. Their son, Jay and his wife, Karen are seventh ward residents and both work for Triad School District. Jay is an elementary principal and Karen teaches Special Education. Their son, Cory is a student at Northwestern Medical School, working toward his M.D./PhD. degrees. Amy, their daughter, teaches in Fairview Heights.Ron taught school in Granite City for nine years and St. Louis for two years. For the next twenty years he worked as a criminal investigator for the Labor Department, Social Security Administration, EPA, and Postal Service. Four years ago Ron became the Principal and Pre-K Coordinator at Hartford Elementary School.
Councilman Simpson’s education includes B.S and M.S. degrees in Elementary Education, an Educational Administration Certificate and an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice.
As an alderman Councilman Simpson promises to work for the continued improvement of Granite City and to concentrate his efforts in the following ways:
1. Continue the clean-up efforts of the city to increase local property values.
2. Work to bring “high wage” jobs to the city through industrial and commercial development.
3. Work to keep our Public Safety department professional, well trained, and responsive to the need of our citizens.
4. Work to make sure the city council is fiscally responsible and always keeps the needs of the citizens as the focus of its efforts.
Alderman Simpson will be up for re-election in 2011.
