Don Thompson
Ward 7 Councilmember


Alderman ThompsonDonald E. Thompson is an Alderman for Ward 7 and has been a resident of Granite City since 1961. He was elected in 2003 and then re-elected in 2007. He has worked as a Journeyman Sheet Metal Mechanic for over 35 years before his retirement from Spectralite (formerly Dow Chemical Company).

Mr. Thompson is a graduate of Jerseyville Community High School. He also attended Belleville Area College for a year to enhance his productivity in his field of work. Lastly, he also completed a four year course with the Commercial Trade Institute in Chicago.

Alderman Thompson’s hobbies include fishing, hunting and traveling. He is a member of the Granite City Masonic Lodge #835, the Scottish Rite Valley, the Ainad Shrine Temple where he was a past Commander of the Ainad Temple Legion of Honor, the Granite City Shrine Club and last but not least, he is a member of Grace Baptist Church, where he has been attending since 1961.

Most important to Alderman Thompson is his family. He has been married to his wife, Evelyn for more than 48 years now. He has three adult children and eight grandchildren.

Concerning the future of Granite City, Councilman Thompson believes that the following three issues are critical to our success:

   1. Continued cleanup of the City, making it a more desirable place to live and a source of pride for its residents. 
   2. Continued demolition of dilapidated housing to make way for new sites for the Mayor’s Scattered Site Housing Program.
   3. Keeping Ward 7 and all City residents better informed of the projects taking place throughout Granite City.

Councilman Thompson will next be up for re-election in 2011.
